Every successful person can tie their success to 1 or 2 things that have occurred in their background that specifically kicked things off. JPS jims calling is all about mine and how it started. How it happened, why it happened, what difference did it make and where I went from there. All the details are right here.
I guess the very first evidence of where I was going started when I was 12. My Dad came home from a hard day at work, to a 12 year old who had disassembled his shiny new Sears Moped and there were parts scattered all over the garage. Wow, was he pissed, I thought for sure it was a trip to the woodshed.
Instead, even as pissed as he was, my punishment was to put it back together, making it run better than it did before. And that is the very essence of JPS Jims calling. Mark Hamilton of Neothink calls that Friday night essence and downstream focus.
To this very day, I believe that is exactly what happened. It did run better when I put all the pieces back together, because I did my very best to improve the function of every piece. My father, impressed as he was with his 12 year old son, knew that there was much more in store for me later in life.
My calling has always been to find out what makes things tick, then make them better, and teach others what I did;
- Whether mechanical, electronic, or logical, which defines computer systems to a T.
- Understand what that essence is, how it exists, and why it exists.
- Then How can I improve upon it to make it better, with a minimum of effort and time.
- And to help others understand it as I do, teaching them about the finer points of the technology.
Realizing that my fate and direction were, for the most part, ordained by the civilization of the universe, as Mark Hamilton calls it. What I was meant to do and where I was meant to go had already been scripted for me. I just didn’t know it at the time. But it was ingrained in my very being.
Six years in the Navy involved with high-tech missile systems was the very start of Computer Systems for me, and I just couldn’t get enough. I was heavily involved and loved every minute of it. I was called upon many times to lead the FT Gang (Fire Control Tech) in its role on the ship. And to insure that all systems were functioning at the highest level.
Exiting the Navy dropped me right into the Computer Systems environment. Working first for Decision Data as a Specialist working on System 3 and System 4 plug compatible systems. Then Hitachi on there High End IBM PCM Systems as a Performance System Analyst. Finally with Teradata in a Senior Engineering Analyst position working with 10 other guys on Relational Database systems.
I have enjoyed every minute of it and loved every part. My managers have called me a natural for the environment, and I have literally heard this question many times; : “How did you do that”? Things have always come naturally to me in this environment.
To me Computers are like tinker toys, (remember those?). Fun for all ages and great for building things, just like Legos. Building, configuring, troubleshooting, and creating computer systems are about the same, and I can never get enough. Its a natural extension of who I am, as well as helping people understand them. You know; “What makes them tick”?
My Mentors Jim Rohn and Mark Hamilton have always said; Help others get what they want, and you can get everything you want. Find your Friday Night Essence, which is the pure essence of this Community that you are now checking out. Lock into everything they do and help every other member do the same. That is the picture of success, not just for me but for all of the community.
It is so awesome to be a part of something that exists to the same core as I do.
